About

Susan Ring is a home grown Indiana resident.  She is the daughter of Glenn and Lucille Grimm and grew up in farm country around Atwood, Indiana.  She attended John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis for two years after graduating from Warsaw High School.  Keith and Susan married and settled in North Manchester, Indiana where they raised two sons, Brandon and Derek.  After retiring from Manchester Community Schools, she enjoys painting and visiting her family including eight grandchildren, three in the Chicago area and five in the Milwaukee area.

Her love of painting that was discovered in college, was rekindled in 2000.  Her sister, Sharon Forthofer (a talented artist in North Carolina) encouraged her to attend mini-workshops with nationally known artists such as Tom Lynch, Joseph Fettingis, Diane Maxey, Billyo O’Donnell and recently, Roger Dale Brown.  These opportunities gave her the skills to take her paintings to a new level.

Memberships past and present include: Fort Wayne Art Guild, Wabash Art Guild;  Lakeland Art Association;  Hoosier Salon;  Indiana Plein Air Painters Association, and the Indiana Heritage Arts.

Her paintings have been displayed in the Indiana Statehouse for the Hoosier Women Artist competition, juried art shows including:  Midwest Museum of American Art, Elkhart; Clark Gallery, Honeywell Center, Wabash; Lakeland Art Shows, Warsaw; Heartland Artist Shows, Plymouth; Fort Wayne Ventures in Creativity, and in 2018 the Haan Mansion Museum of Indiana Art in Lafayette. In 2020-21, her Historic Indiana painting is being displayed at Indiana State Museum, Ft. Wayne Museum of Art, The Historic Brown County Art Gallery, Richmond Art Museum and Midwest Museum of American Art.
